A story brought up by the Ted Talk

In the Ted talk we watched in class a big point was don't judge a whole group of people by one story. I think this idea was also expressed in persepolis as well. I think these ideas very much relate to us as Americans today. A big part of our lives right now is wrapped up in terrorism, it is a horrible thing and has brought horrible emotions on many people, but it is also painting that one story for many Americans. The picture painted is everyone over there in the ''vast deserts'' are terrorist. The picture is that people of the islamic faith are less educated, evil humans, but this picture we paint on a whole group makes us the less educated. One story that I would like to share is about this exact thing. I feel that a good amount of people I know have joined the armed forces. One thing that gets under my skin is something I heard a friend soon to be deported say along the lines of, "I'm going to go kill me some towel heads". The part that equally disturbed me is when the friend came back and actually did kill some people, he was never the same. If killing overseas is brought up or any of the the kind of talk that was going on before he was deported comes up, he will change. A million mile stare will take over his face and he will leave because all the memories of whatever happened over there comes flooding back. War is a horrible thing and the point I am trying to get across is we are all people. Going in someone might say, "I'm going to kill some towel heads" but when they come back they will be haunted because they saw not only real enemies of the USA die but you also saw innocent eastern people who are just like us die.
